TELEVISION SHOW COLLECTOR
DVD AND VIDEO TAPE TRADER

VIDEO TRADING

I am one of millions of people around the world who collect television programs, originally on video tape and now also on DVD. Thanks to the internet, we are now able to make contact with other collectors and make copies of television shows available and obtain copies of shows from other collectors that can not be purchased commercially. I will trade copies of anything in my list of programs available for anything in my list of programs wanted. Like most video collectors now, I collect and trade shows primarily on DVD. I can still accept copies on VHS video tape, but I can not send copies on tape because I do not have a reliable consistent source to buy blank tapes. General information on video trading can be found in the Video Tape Trading F.A.Q.

DVD FORMATS

My list of available shows includes shows that I have in my collection on DVD. The descriptions of programs that are on DVD include the number of DVDs in the set, whether they include commercials or not, and whether the DVDs include menus and chapters or not. When I convert programs to DVD that include the original commercials, I add chapters at the end of each commercial break so anyone that wants to see the original commercials can watch them and anyone that wants to skip them can just press the DVD player's Next Chapter button. I can also edit the commercials out of a program with original commercials upon request. When I convert programs to DVD that are from syndicated reruns, I edit out the commercials and insert chapters where the commercials were. I also create menus on the DVDs so individual episodes can be selected by number or title. However sometimes I receive DVDs in trade that do not have menus or chapters, which is why I indicate in the description if they do. I can only make NTSC (North American) standard DVDs, but I can accept DVD copies recorded in other international standards. DVDs are available in either DVD-R or DVD+R format. Commercially manufactured DVDs are molded in a format that will play in any DVD player, but recorded DVDs are burned onto blank discs that are available in one of those two formats. Almost all computer DVD drives will play both formats. DVD-R was the first format, and over 90% of DVD players will play DVD-R. Most of the players that play DVD-R also play DVD+R, but a few will not. There are also a few newer players that will only play DVD+R. The owner's manual for a DVD player should indicate which formats it will play. Also some DVD players will only play DVDs recorded on some brands of blank discs. I usually make DVD copies using Maxell brand DVD-R discs which are the most compatible with different DVD players, but I can use other brands or formats if requested. Format and brand compatibility can be found at Video Help under Players, or email me with the brand and model number and I can look it up for you.

ORIGINAL SOURCES OF THESE VIDEOS

Many of the shows in my collection were originally recorded on video tape before DVDs were invented and then recently converted to DVD. The programs are all complete and watchable unless otherwise noted, although the video or audio quality may vary depending on the quality of the original broadcast or the age of the original video tape and some may be missing the closing credits or a few seconds before or after commercial breaks due to editing while recording. Please email me with any questions about the quality of any programs listed. The programs in my library were legally recorded by me from television broadcasts or are copies of programs obtained from other people who are believed to have legally recorded the programs from television broadcasts according to the Sony v. Universal United States Supreme Court decision. None of these shows are copies of commercially released recordings. To my knowledge, I have no programs listed that are currently commercially available for consumer purchase or rental on prerecorded video tape, DVD, VCD, or any other format. Even if something has aired on television that has also been released commercially, I will not knowingly provide copies of anything that would deprive the copyright owners of these programs of any revenue or profits by someone getting a copy from me instead of purchasing it commercially. Please inform me if I have anything listed as available that is also available commercially.

COPYRIGHTS AND TRADEMARKS

None of the programs in my library are known to be in the public domain and all programs are the property of their respective copyright holders. I have no connection to the producers or owners of any programs in my library. No rights to these programs are given or implied as part of the compensation for making copies of them. Providing copies of these programs is believed by me to be fair use of this copyrighted material and is not intended to be considered a challenge to any copyrights or trademarks. Programs are to be viewed for personal use and not broadcast or used for other commercial purposes. Providing copies of these programs to television viewers who could have watched them when they originally aired can also be considered time-shifting. Sony v. Universal established that time-shifting, recording programs from television broadcasts and viewing the recorded programs at some later time, is fair use of these copyrighted television programs. The original decision considered programs television viwers recorded for themselves. However since there are now millions of television viewers that pay monthly fees to TiVo, ReplayTV, and other personal video recorder companies to do their time-shifting for them, it is now clear that fees can be charged for the service of time-shifting programs for other television viewers. Any compensation for making copies of these programs covers only the costs associated with making and sending the copies with no payment for the programs themselves, just like people who watch programs recorded by TiVo are not purchasing or otherwise paying for the programs themselves even though they are paying a fee for the service of having the shows recorded.

COPYRIGHT OWNERS

If you are the copyright owner of any of the programs listed on this page and want me to remove any of them, please contact me with the specific titles of the programs and I will gladly remove them. I have removed all programs produced by two major networks at their requests, and if you are employed by either of those networks and I accidentally have a program listed that is owned by your company, please tell me and I will remove it immediately. However I have also been contacted by and sent videos to the other major networks and other production companies that were looking for copies of specific programs who did not express any complaints about providing copies of their programs to other collectors. If you are the owner of any of these programs and are reading this and you do not tell me to remove your programs, you are implying your consent of me having these available.

OTHER TELEVISION PROGRAMS

"If you read a lot of books you are considered well read. But if you watch a lot of TV, you're not considered well viewed."
Lily Tomlin

I also have many other shows that I have not cataloged here yet. Email me if looking for any program I do not have listed. I might have it or know someone else who does.

TRADING AND ORDERING INFORMATION

I will trade copies of shows from my collection for other shows I am looking for that are approximately equal to what I send in terms of time and quality. However if someone has nothing to trade that I want, I charge $10 per individual DVD to make and send copies of shows from my collection. This compensates me for the cost of the blank DVD and case, media mail postage within the United States, and the use of my equipment and time in making and sending the copy. I can also make custom DVDs with up to two hours of any shows from my collection for $10 per DVD.

For series that are on sets of multiple DVDs, I charge $10 for the first DVD and $5 for each additional DVD in the set. So a 2 DVD set would be $15 total, a 3 DVD set would be $20 total, etc. Prices include shipping by media mail within the United States which should arrive within 7 days after mailing. Shipping by first class mail which should arrive within 5 days after mailing is an additional $3 per order. Shipping by priority mail which should arrive within 3 days after mailing is an additional $6 per order. Please email me for shipping costs outside of the United States. I can accept payment by cash, check, or money order.

DVDs are recorded using new blank discs and are recorded and shipped from my non-smoking home. In trading copies of other television shows or paying me for the service of making and sending copies of shows from my collection, you are not purchasing the programs themselves from me. All you are getting are copies of recordings from television exactly as you would have if you had recorded the programs yourself when they were originally broadcast. Please send an email messsage to the address (todd at professorvideo.com) or click on the following link to email me with any questions or to arrange a DVD order or trade.
